Hanni El Khatib- You Rascal You (Aesop Rock Remix)

It's only fitting that Hanni El Khatib's whiskey-glazed voice be featured on a fansite called Whiskey Teeth. The multi-instrumentalist serves as singer, songwriter & producer for his one-man band (live he is joined by a drummer) that is part blues, part garage rock, part soul, part folk & part doo whop. Earlier this year he released his debut 7" single Dead Wrong that was accompanied by You Rascal You; a fuzzy, blues laced ode to a fucked up friend that was recently remixed by Aesop Rock.

Free download below, as well as the video for Dead Wrong on the flip side.

Notorious BIG vs. Dam Funk- Cali Hood (Keg Kuger Remix)

Under the Table Crew DJ Keg Kuger has brewed up a new bi-coastal banger by mashing up Dam-Funk's "Hood Pass Intact" with Notorious BIG's "Going Back to Cali". Flip the switches.

J. Cole- Bun B for President (Chuuwee Remix)

Chuuwee takes advantage of the open space on J. Cole's Bun B for President and adds some of his own Third Coast flavor.

I still have never listened to a J. Cole project-- maybe it's time?

Quincy Vidal- I See You (Still Weavens Remix)

My favorite track off of Quincy Vidal's debut album, Cookin' in Brooklyn, has received a Still Weavens remix treatment, making me fall in love with the record all over again. After you peep the remix, check out Le'Asha Julius and Caleb Eberhardt's brainchild in its entirety. It remains one of the more refreshing and interesting free releases to drop this year!

Grimace Federation- Bosico (Butchered by Aesop Rock)

Aesop Rock has taken the first single from Philadelphia based instrumental/psych rock band Grimace Federation's debut album and "butchered it". Bosico features Aesop's classic abstract poetics over a flickering electro laced beat with random streams of powerful horns from GF.

Also, the fine folks at 900bats jumped in Jeremy Fish’s van for an afternoon and shot a video for Aesop’s remix (up top) – directed by Alexander Tarrant and Justin Metros.

Open Mike Eagle- Original Butterscotch Confection ft. Busdriver (3Ninjas) Remix)

Open Mike Eagle is back with another Unapologetic Art Rap remix with the 3Ninjas laced version of Original Butterscotch Confection. Basically, it's an MP3 that proves that OME and Busdriver should start up a techno-polka band.

Also, hit the flip side to check out some classic Open Mike performances live at ASSSSCAT at the UCB Theatre in Los Angeles.

Front Porch Poets- JanU ft. 7even:Thirty & MO

Here is a song from the Front Porch Poets free remix project called Off The Record, a remix album of the Front Porch Poets debut, For The Record, that was released earlier this year. To be honest, neither release is my cup of tea, but this Henning laced 7even:Thirty track is a must hear. 7even continues to churn out the dope spaced-bugged bangers and I'm hoping he'll catch more blog love soon. In my opinion, he is one of the more interesting and accessible weirdos that continues to get slept on.

To get more familiar with 7even I added 7even:Thirty's video for Galaxy Express and his song Future Flow with Erik L and Hezekiah that was released earlier this year.

Muneshine & Bix- Status Symbol (The Remixes)

Full album download and my favorite track below.
Status Symbol, Muneshine’s anticipated follow-up to his critically acclaimed debut LP Opportunity Knocks, showed no signs of the evil sophomore jinx.Muneshine’s witty and observant lyricism combined with world class production by M-Phazes, !llmind, Oddisee (and more) proved that Muneshine had the skills to eclipse his rookie outing; not an easy feat when your debut boasts production by DJ Spinna and the legendary Pete Rock. A controversial Playgirl centerfold exposed the MC to an entirely new demographic most rappers rarely reach. The well-endowed wordsmith and his groundbreaking pose with a komodo dragon launched his flexibility into the dreams of housewives around the world and Status Symbol to #7 on the Billboard Charts (Gospel). Alongside a 10/10 rating, Black Hair Magazine compared listening to the album to “having a nasty-ass orgasm with Nia Long,” and, “The bible. If the bible was a compact disc.”
Three weeks after Status Symbol’s release, Muneshine made headlines by refusing to accept the Grammy for Spoken Word Album of the Year because the award presentation wasn’t televised. Shocked by the backlash of the music community and the death of his komodo dragon, Muneshine halted all future promotion of Status Symbol and relocated to Tahiti. On his move to Tahiti, Muneshine told Ikea Catalogue, “I love Tahiti Treat. I get thirsty a lot. It makes sense.”
Almost a decade later, in 2010, Canadian super-producer Bix (Ghettosocks, Alpha Flight, Team Wolf) discovered the original accappella sessions from Status Symbol while going through Interscope founder Jimmy Iovine’s collection of vintage Dat Tapes. Risking probation violation, Bix slipped the cassettes into his hip-satchel and headed straight to D&D Studios to put his own twist on Muneshine’s masterpiece. Seven Tahiti Treats and 48 hours later, Bix’s remixed version of Status Symbol was complete.
Tahiti’s lack of electricity forced Muneshine to return home to Toronto to hear the reworking of his classic LP. Creative differences over the album’s title stalled its release. While Bix wanted to name the LP ‘Muneshine:Status Symbol:reBIXed’, Muneshine wanted to name it ‘anything but that!’ The three month battle ended when both artists discovered that a journalist from Auto Trader leaked the album onto Napster. Anger disappeared when the album reached 7 million downloads in its first 24 hours online. The demand was evident.

Open Mike Eagle- Unapologetic ft. Nocando (Awkward Haunted Hand Remix)

Open Mike Eagle's Unapologetic Art Rap available now on Mush Records.
Frequent co-conspirator Awkward from the United Kingdom is a maniac. Who else remixes tracks that they produced themselves? Here’s his second interpretation of Unapologetic, featuring Nocando:

Open Mike Eagle- Garbage Man (Prolific of E. Super Remix)

In a few weeks I am planning on posting Whiskeyteeth's version of the XXL's popular Freshman list (I'm sure your ass is dangling off the edge of your computer chair in anticipation). So far the list has been kept very hush-hush-- no leaks, no message board postings, no top tweets-- but I can't take it anymore; it's time to reveal the first MC of our 2010 New School Rising.

Windy City raised now Smog City settled MC Open Mike Eagle has found quite a comfy nest amongst LA's sky scraping palm trees. The peculiar art rap proprietor has single handedly revived the spirit of Project Blowed, while adding vivid strokes of color to an already brilliant Southern California scene. His debut album, Unapologetic Art Rap, has launched his music into the blogosphere where it has been met with hugs and hand pounds from the web's worthiest taste-makers. Rightfully so considering the album transcends trendsetting and instead gives hip hop's starving underworld a fearless classic full of razor sharp wit and mind boggling mic skills.

Out first official freshman from our New School Rising list has just sent over a new loosie for us to feast on. I'll let him dish out the info:
Alwayz Prolific from the beat collective E. Super is a producer I frequently work with. He produced “Art Rap Party”, “Mistakes” and co-produced “Helicopter” and “Partly Cloudy” from my LP. He laced up a grimy, funky, and dark remix of Garbage Man.
Peep the download below and do yourself a favor and cop Unapologetic Art Rap on iTunes or "the way of the dinosaur".

Shad- Yaa I Get It (Muneshine Remix)

Oddisee laced a remix earlier this year, now it's fellow Canadian Muneshine's turn. Which one do you prefer? I still think the original takes the cake, but this one is definitely my second favorite.

Muneshine added a download. Woop, woop.

Substantial- U Were There ft. JsouL [Mp3 Download]

A little late on this. I was going to just wait and upload this with my weekly blog buzz post, but I love this track so much that it needed it's own showcase post. More info from QN5 below:
Substantial refuses to take any time off, returning with his new single, “U Were There (ft. JsouL)”, produced by DMV beatsmith, Joe.D (of Dirty Water). To add even more flavor to the sauce, Big Tune Beat Battle (Seattle) Champ, Marcus D. comes through with an inescapably silky remix that would make Sade proud.

“U Were There” is taken from from Substantial’s forthcoming mixtape, WINK (Something Substantial), which will take listeners on a 10-year journey of Substantial’s music, focusing mainly on his his love/relationship songs. From throwback classics like the Nujabes-produced “Eclipse”, to 3 ALL NEW EXCLUSIVE SONGS to add to the fire. WINK will be released on Feb. 9, 2010 at QN5.com and is blended by the UK’s Dub MD and hosted by Kno (CunninLynguists). Stay tuned for artwork and tracklisting.

Rob Viktum- Exhibit C Remix ft. Jay Electronica [Free Mp3 Download]

One of my favorite new producers from Dallas, Texas, Rob Viktum, has decided there has been enough VOCAL freestyles and remixes, so he snatched Jay Elec's eclectic flux and put his own instrumental twist on 2009's most hyped record. I dig it! Viktum's latest album, Progress 2, is now available to purchase at the MegaRoyalRecords store.

Intuition- Al Bundy (Falside Remix) [Free MP3 Download]

Falside adds his own perspective to one of Intuition's dopest singles from his upcoming solo LP, Girls Like Me. A totally different vibe to the blurry, hungover sun drenched record that was first laced by Equalibrium, but it actually works. Intuition's solo LP is almost here, stay tuned for one more leak and than the highly anticipated release on January 26th.

MAGr- Laminated Looseleafs ft. Blu (Small Professor Remix) [MP3 Download]

New Jersey MCs, Almighty and DistantStarr (MAGr), might not have popped on your radar last year, but I still truly believe they had one of the best free album releases of 2009 with their RocktheDub hosted freebie, No News is Good News, featuring Blu, Cymarshall Law, and Fel Sweetenberg.

Today, the underrated Philadelphia propagated producer, Small Professor,  laced the web with his rendition of the lead single from the record, Laminated Looseleafs, featuring everyone’s favorite new godlee rapper, Blu.
